1remodela_0105

We camped in our bedroom the night after closing.

1remodela_0106

J made me retake the picture.

Remodela_0108

The entertainment center the POs left us. It won't fit down the stairs, and it won't come apart easily. Soon to begin a brief stint as kindling.

1remodela_0109

Painting the ceilings. Note the soon-to-be-extinct grandma-green.

1remodela_0110

I save money on plastic sheets by catching paint drips with my face.

1remodela_0113

J and I after a full day of painting. Sweat equity indeed...

1remodela_0114

J's brother Matt dropped by.

1remodela_0115

My sister Anne also stopped in.

1remodela_0117

Color! After a day of ceilings and primer, we finally get to wonder "is that really the color we picked out?"

1remodela_0120

I pass the time spreading melted chocolate ice cream on the walls. Still paint-catching.

100_0367

My dad and stepmom dropped by to help us with painting. The living room is done and the tape has come off -- there's a light at the end of the tunnel.

100_0368

J in our newly painted living room.

100_0369

Dad and I in front of the brownscreen. We'll add the dinosaurs in postproduction.

100_0372

J's office (the back bedroom). The color is "Privilege Green".

100_0375

This color, btw, is "Moroccan Brown".

100_0376

My stepsister Sammi adds color to any room she's in.

100_0377

We got a lawnmower. I volunteered -- it was easier than waiting to get drafted.

100_0380

When did I turn into the pasty balding guy fighting with a lawnmower? Did I take a wrong turn?

100_0381

My magnetic personality also attracts grass clippings jaded with the whole bagger scene.

100_0382

Sandafloor!!! Mike and TJ arrive on Friday just in time for the fashion show. Here they are modeling the latest in earplugs.

100_0383

The stage is set...

100_0384

The humor level is lowbrow -- do not adjust your monitor...

100_0386

J's office after the first pass with the belt sander, halfway with the rotary sander. I hate that thing.

100_0388

The living room in progress, Mike doing the honors.

100_0389

Workhorse Mike fighting with the rotary sander in the hallway. Way to take one for the team!

100_0392

Me finishing up the living room -- 2am Saturday morning. Bet the neighbors just love us...

100_0393

Den (front bedroom)(color is "Soulful Blue"), Saturday morning.

100_0394

The rotary sander has face time built into its contract.

100_0395

J's office, Saturday morning, shop-vac hamming it up.

100_0396

J's office, Saturday morning, floor-to-ceiling shot.

100_0397

The last of its kind, a lonely can of Cherry Coke watches the future roll by, stop briefly at the corner, and make a left.

100_0399

Living room Saturday morning. Check out how big the windows are here and in the den.

100_0402

Bedroom, pre-anything. We left the bedroom until last because hauling the belt sander up the stairs is no fun.

100_0404

A dividing line.

100_0405

J's office, Saturday night -- done.

100_0407

Mike finishing up the living room with the fine grit.

100_0410

J's office, Sunday morning, done in the sun.

100_0411

The ancients measured the seasons by watching the path of the sunbeam crossing the hardwoods.

100_0412

I must really like this room.

100_0413

Den, Sunday morning -- done.

100_0414

Living room, Sunday -- done.

100_0415

I noticed that if you stand in the front corner of the house (by the fireplace), you can see back to the opposite corner of the house, and it's one continuous stretch of hardwood flooring, with no breaks at doorways or anything.

100_0416

And amazingly enough, it works in reverse, too.

100_0417

Bedroom after one pass.

100_0418

The ancient Joneses...

100_0420

The reading area (alcove on the bedroom), post-first-sanding.
